The companies had five engines and five brush trucks on the Parkway for the first brush fire. The Keansburg and Lincroft Fire Departments as well as the New Jersey Forest Fire Service (NJFFS) also assisted.

Tobin said the fire rekindled later that afternoon, because of the fact that it was rooted in some "deeply massed leaves."
