Tinton Falls Fire Company No. 1 and Northside Engine Company No. 4 responded to a large brush fire on the Garden State Parkway Sunday afternoon.
The fires were reported just after 1:30 p.m. and it covered a 1.5-mile stretch of the Parkway, according to Public Information Officer for Tinton Falls Fire Co. #1 Brendan Tobin.
The companies had five engines and five brush trucks on the Parkway for the first brush fire. The Keansburg and Lincroft Fire Departments as well as the New Jersey Forest Fire Service (NJFFS) also assisted.
Tobin said the fire rekindled later that afternoon, because of the fact that it was rooted in some "deeply massed leaves."
The Lincroft, Northside, and the NJFFS were called back when the brush fire rekindled.
