Eatontown Resident Arrested in Long Island Stabbing

Shante Tyler, 21, was arrested on Monday in connection with a stabbing in a grocery store parking lot in Middle Island, NY.

An Eatontown resident was one of two suspects arrested in connection with a stabbing Monday morning in a supermarket parking lot in Long Island, according to Suffolk County Police.

Shante Tyler, 21, 155 South St., was allegedly involved in an altercation on Sept. 19 with another suspect in a King Cullen parking lot in Middle Island, NY at approximately 10:15 a.m. that resulted in the stabbing of one of two victims, according to police.

Port Monmouth resident Joseph Rovinsky, of 203 Sunset Ave., who was also arrested on Monday, was allegedly sitting with Tyler in a car along with another man and a woman. Rovinsky, 24, and Tyler allegedly punched the woman in the head and stabbed the man in the neck and fled the scene on foot.

Responding police units secured the area and the suspects were located in a wooded area nearby and placed under arrest by Canine Police Officer Mark Sacco and his dog, Max, according to a release from the Suffolk County Police.

The victims were transported to Brookhaven Memorial Hospital Medical Center in East Patchogue, NY, where the man was treated for serious injuries. The woman, who had minor injuries, was treated and released.

The suspects were each charged with Assault First Degree and one count of Assault Second Degree and are scheduled for arraignment at First District Court in Central Islip, NY on Sept. 20.

A criminal charge is an accusation. A defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
