"The sales staff notified police because they felt that something was suspicious about the amount of merchandise purchased by the two accused," Eatontown Det. Lawrence Tyler said in a release. "P.O. Christopher Quackenbush and Det. John Gugliuzza met with the sales associate in the Foot Locker store in the mall and they were able to obtain a description of the two accused, who had already left the store."

Patrol officers in the mall located Hammond and Knight and found that they were in possession of several credit cards which allegedly did not belong to them. They also possessed the merchandise and gift cards they purchased using the credit cards.
