Early Morning Fire Destroys Building Behind Coast Hardware in Long Branch

Blaze behind Broadway store reported just after 5 a.m. Sunday.

An early morning blaze destroyed a structure behind Coast Hardware on Broadway in Long Branch.

The two-alarm fire was reported at just after 5 a.m. Sunday morning, and as of 8 a.m., it was extinguished.

Firefighters were still on the scene at 8:45 a.m., and police had closed off a portion of Branchport Avenue, near its Broadway intersection, so motorists could not drive past the area of the fire.

The exterior and interior of the structure, a small white building in the rear of Coast Hardware's parking lot, appeared to be heavily damaged.

The Long Branch fire marshal was not available for comment on Sunday.
