Dorsett Family Sentenced for Ocean Township Murder

Kathleen and Thomas Dorsett were found guilty in the murder of Stephen Moore.

An Ocean Township family who conspired in the 2010 death of a Manchester man was sentenced in Monmouth County Court Thursday, according to NJ.com.

Thomas Dorsett, 66, and his daughter Kathleen Dorsett, 38, pleaded guilty in May to killing Stephen Moore in the backyard of her Ocean Township house. The duo loaded the body in a car and set it on fire in Long Branch. Moore was the father of Kathleen Dorsett’s daughter, and the murder occurred during a custody battle.

Kathleen Dorsett and her mother Lesley Dorsett, 68, also planned a murder for hire plot to kill Moore’s mother Evelyn Moore.

Kathleen Dorsett was sentenced to 30 years in prison on the murder charge, 20 years on an attempted murder charge and eight years on conspiracy to disturb human remains charge, according to NJ.com.

Thomas Dorsett was sentenced to 30 years on the murder charge and 15 years on the arson for hire charge, NJ.com reported.
