UPDATE: NJ Transit Bridge Fixed, Service South of Manasquan Resumes

Bridge was stuck in open position.

Update, 3:30 p.m.: The bridge is back down and service has been restored, said William Smith, an NJ Transit spokesperson.

"The cause still under investigation. We can't say if it was weather related," Smith said.

NJ Transit trains cannot run south of the Manasquan station because the bridge leading from there to Point Pleasant Beach is stuck in the open position.

William Smith, an NJ Transit spokesperson, said at about 2:20 p.m. Tuesday that the bridge had been stuck in the up position since about 1:30 p.m. and crews had either arrived at the scene to work on it or they were en route.

When asked if ice, biting winds or frigid temperatures caused the bridge malfunction, Smith said he did not know.

"NJ Transit is providing shuttle buses from the Manasquan train
station to Bay Head for passengers traveling south of Manasquan," Smith said.

This story will be updated when more information becomes available.

The Bridge should be replaced after all these years. From a boaters point of view, they need to widen the path for boaters to go in ether the East bor West direction. There are more people who use the waterway than the Train Route. A nnew Railroad Bridge is lonng overdue.

PS IF THE ARMY CORPS OF ENGINEERS CANN BUILD A BRIDGE LIKE THEY DID DURING THE SECOND WORLD WAR IN A FEW DAYS, BUILDING A NEW RAILROAD BRIDGE INN A SHORT TIME IS FEASIBLE. ANY OTHER THOUGHTS OUT THERE ?

Our Infrastructure in NJ is affecting our economy especially our bridges and secondary roads and Mass Transit. I be willing to pay a nickle more for gas if it was used for our needs. We have an extremely low tax on gasoline compare to other states. Sure I love it, but driving at night is hazardous especially with the Pot Holes this freeze is creating.
