Dead Male Found Floating in Branchport Creek

Authorities remove body from inlet off rear of Pleasure Bay Apartments

Authorities were examining the body of a dead male who was extracted from the Branchport Creek inlet around 11 a.m. today.

Long Branch and New Jersey State Police converged on the rear of the Pleasure Bay Apartment complex at 245 Atlantic Ave. before 10 a.m. today on the report of the body, found floating roughly 15 feet from shore.

Residents watched as both the local and state police surveyed the scene, photographing the evidence, before working to extract the body of the unidentified male. The body was placed in a police vehicle shortly after noon.

The male was reportedly dead on the arrival of police, according to emergency communications. The circumstances surrounding his death were not immediately known. The body was shirtless, but was wearing pants.

Witnesses on the scene said a couple was walking by, saw the body, and called the police.
