Celtic 5K Pays Tribute To Fallen Officers

Annual race held Saturday in Long Branch

Racers from across the state lined up to participate in Saturday's Celtic Tribute 5K to honor fallen Long Branch Police Officers.

The 5K race is sponsored by Long Branch PBA No. 10 with proceeds benefiting the PBA Local 10 Scholarship Fund in Memory of our Fallen Officers; Ptl. Herman Emmons, Ptl. William Richards and Sgt. Patrick King.

The sun came out for this year's event, much to the delight of runners, after last year's race was plagued by wind and rain.

The top three finishers were Dave Slavinski of Point Pleasant with a time of 16:05, Tyler Gillies of Howell with a time of 16:46, followed by Matthew Weissinger of Somerville in a time of 16:54. The top female finisher was Allison Linnell of Colts Neck with a time of 17:44.

The course traveled down the Promenade and Ocean Avenue toward the boardwalk, before returning to and finishing at the Great Lawn of Beachfront North.

Awards were given out after the race and several runners gathered at the Celtic Cottage for food and a few cold drinks.
