Asbury Park Man and Driver Charged in West Long Branch Burglary Attempt

Incident occurred on Tuesday at 2 p.m.

An Asbury Park resident has been arrested and charged with attempted burglary for trying to enter the home of a West Long Branch resident, police said.

Altonia Williams, 34, of Asbury Park, was charged with attempting to burglarize a home on Mount Drive in West Long Branch on Sept. 6 at 2 p.m. According to the West Long Branch Police, the homeowner was at home and scared off Williams before he could enter the home.

Williams fled to the area of Norwood Avenue and Brighton Avenue and was located by the Long Branch Police, and positively identified by the homeowner.

Williams was arrested by West Long Branch Police Ptl. Laura Osborn. Long Branch Police Ptl. Dan Newman and the Asbury Park K-9 unit assisted in the arrest.

Stephanie Torres, 26, of Asbury Park was also arrested on a charge of conspiracy to commit burglary for driving Williams to the area and attempting to pick him up after he attempted to burglarize the home, police said.

Police said the homeower was able to give a description of the vehicle Williams exited before the burglary attempt. West Long Branch Police loated the vehicle near the intersection of Mount Drive and Cedar Avenue.

Torres was also arrested on an outstanding warrant out of the Long Branch Municipal Court.

Williams is being held in Monmouth County Jail in lieu of $50,000 bail. His initial court appearance is set for Sept. 14, according to court documents.
