On Tuesday, October 22nd at Colts Neck High School, the Colts Neck Business Association hosted a Town Meeting featuring State Senator Jennifer Beck; Assemblywomen Angelini and Casagrande, along with County Sheriff Shaun Golden and Colts Neck Mayor Fitzgerald.
The format for the politicians to answer questions was questionable indeed. Questions were submitted prior to the debate either online or written on paper before the meeting began. This questionable format permitted "filtering" or elimination of certain questions that candidates felt uncomfortable answering.
Although the crowd was a paltry 50 in attendance, most had questions regarding the proposed legislation by Senator Beck regarding banning recreational facilities such as motocross near residential communites.
A contentious situation is developing between the motocross industry and the legislator, who wants to ban a motocross facility adjacent to the county landfill in Tinton Falls.
Motocross is a sport that utilizes motorcycles of all sizes along dirt trails. It is a family oriented sport, that keeps provides enthusiasts with safe trails as opposed to riding in protected areas, thus doing harm to the environment.
It seems no questions regarding this facility were answered--despite assertions from some, that questions were submitted in advance.
Another contentious issue is the alleged pension fraud at the Monmouth County Sheriff's Department, implicating Beck's friend, former Sheriff Kim Guadagno.
Questions submitted in advance regarding the pension scam situation-- like the motocross issue-- were conveniently disregarded, and not addressed.
Many have said after the meeting that they will "remember in November."
