Retired Eatontown Police Lieutenant, Fireman Dies at 72

Visitation for Charles A. Stoneham, Jr. is Monday from 4 to 8 p.m. and Tuesday, July 23 at 10 a.m. at Bongarzone Funeral Home in Tinton Falls.

Charles A. Stoneham, Jr., 72, Ret. Eatontown Police Lieutenant, passed away suddenly on Friday at Monmouth Medical Center in Long Branch.

Stoneham was born in Bayonne; he lived and worked most of his life in the Borough of Eatontown. He was a veteran of the United States Navy serving from 1963 to 1967. He began his career with the borough of Eatontown Police Department in 1968 working 27 years before retiring as lieutenant in 1994.

He was a life member of PBA local 305. He was a life member of the Eatontown Fire Dept. Engine, Truck & Hose Company#1, Ex-Captain and Life Member of the Eatontown First Aid Squad and a member of the Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks Eatontown Lodge #2402. He also was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 2226 in Oakhurst. 

Charles was predeceased by his parents Charles and Hilda Stoneham; his sister; Patricia Nemeth and brother Clinton Stoneham. He is survived by his wife of 45 years, Darlene Stoneham, his daughter Shannon Gaetano, Son-In-Law, Anthony (Bubba) Gaetano, Grandchildren: Danielle, Isabella & Angelina and his brother Thomas and wife Janet Stoneham.

Visitation will be at Bongarzone Funeral Home, 2400 Shafto Road, Tinton Falls on Monday from 4 to 8 p.m. and Tuesday, July 23 from 10 a.m. until the service at 10:30 a.m. Entombment will follow at Woodbine Cemetery & Mausoleum, Oceanport.

In lieu of flowers, the family request donations are made in his memory to PBA Local 305, 47 Broad St, Eatontown, NJ 07724.
