Former Tinton Falls Mayor Passes Away

The flags were lowered today as the Borough of Tinton Falls mourned the loss of former Mayor Ann McNamara who passed away peacefully on Wednesday night.

Her devotion to public service to the Borough of Tinton Falls spans back to the 1980s; first as a Councilwoman and later as a four-term Mayor starting in 1989.

"I am deeply saddened to hear of the passing of former Tinton Falls Mayor Ann McNamara" Mayor Michael Skudera said. "Her devotion to public service and commitment to the residents of Tinton Falls will greatly be missed".

Ann McNamara lived in Tinton Falls with her family for over 30 years. She was married to Thomas McNamara and together had five children. Before serving in elected office, Ann McNamara was a member of the Tinton Falls Planning and Zoning Boards.

Ann McNamara was a member of the New Jersey Conference of Mayor, having served as President in 2003. In 2000, she was named Mayor of the Year at the New Jersey Conference of Mayors.  Ann McNamara was also a member of the Tinton Falls Business and Profession Association, the League of Women Voters, the Northern Monmouth Chapter of the American Associations of University Women, a trustee of the Tinton Falls Library and also served as a charter member of the Save Our Fort committee.

In 1998 she received the Spinnaker Award for elected official of the year, and in 2000 was named Mayor of the Year at the New Jersey Conference of Mayors. In 2004 the Monmouth County Council of Girls Scouts presented her the Woman of Distinction Award.
