Former Rumson Resident Louis Barry Kremer Dies at 86

The consummate athlete completed his last marathon at 62 and continued skiing until the age of 84.

Louis "Lou" Barry Kremer, 86, of Newport, R.I. died in his home on Tuesday, Oct. 22.

Born in Brooklyn on Nov. 2, 1926 in Brooklyn, Kremer moved with his family to New Jersey and attended West Orange High School, according to his obituary on legacy.com. He was inducted into the West Orange High School Athletic Hall of Fame for his achievements as a football player. He resided in Little Silver and Rumson before settling in Newport.

He worked for over five decades serving as an executive and consultant for numerous lighting manufacturing companies until 2000, according to legacy.com. Kremer was also a consummate athlete, completing his last marathon at 62 and his last triathlon at 65 and skiing until the age of 84.

A celebration of Kremer's life will be held on Nov. 23 at 11:30 a.m. at the International Tennis Hall of Fame in Newport.
