Former Long Branch Police Captain Dies

Alexander J. Rota was a member of the Long Branch Police Department for 27 years.

The following is an obituary from Damiano Funeral Home in Long Branch:

Alexander J. Rota, age 85 of Brick, formerly of Long Branch, died peacefully on Saturday, December 21, 2013 at home. Born in Long Branch, he had lived in Brick since 1990. Alex was a police officer for the Long Branch Police Department for 27 years before retiring at the rank of Captain in 1974. He was a member of the P.B.A. Local 10; the N.R.A. and was ranked as an expert bullseye shooter and coached for the Long Branch Community Club in the Tri City Little League. Alex was a parishioner of Star of the Sea Church of Church the King Parish in Long Branch and served his country honorably in the US Army. 

Surviving are his devoted, loving wife of 59 years, Evelyn Mazza Rota; a son and daughter-in-law, Henry and Cilia of Howell, two grandchildren, Alexa and Marc of Wall and his grandchildren’s mother, Lori Rota. 

Alex was caring, honest and hardworking. He was full of love and in turn was loved by family and friends. He will be deeply missed but never forgotten.
