MONMOUTH UNIVERSITY COMMUNITY GARDEN EXCEEDS SUMMER HARVEST GOAL OF 1,500

Donates 2,238 Pounds of Fresh Produce to Local Community Agencies

Monmouth University’s Community Garden exceeded its harvesting goal and has donated to date 2,238 pounds of fresh produce to local organizations and individuals in need. Local agencies that benefited from the donations include Lutheran Church of the Reformation Food Pantry, Soup D’Shore at St. Luke’s Methodist Church, Long Branch Senior Center, Ronald McDonald House, and American Recreational Military Services.

The Community Garden, located on University-owned land between Beechwood and Brookwillow Avenues in West Long Branch, executed its first planting season in April 2010, but this season’s harvests mark the largest donation of fresh produce to the community.

In addition to the donations yielded through the summer harvest, Community Garden organizers report that they still have fall crops, including rutabaga, red beets, and green beans, to harvest and donate through October.

I will drive through the area tomorrow to see if I spot anything! Try googling volunteer searchRead More groups for missing dogs. There are a few in the NJ area. Also ask the local SPCA and Humane Society to see if they can lend you humane traps. Try patrolling the area with food of a strong odor...raw meat, steak, etc. Search in tiny groups and split up to avoid scaring him away, and always bring food and a leash in case you have to lure him over and then leash him. Try also sitting in the area last spotted quietly to see if he approaches you. Bring food so he smells it. Just a few things I have learned while doing some dog searches. Keep sharing and put up posters locally...it helps!
