Pride in Eatontown Volunteers Clean Up in January

Volunteers Helga Schuette and Louis Kane bagged 500 pounds of trash in one chilly day on the Eatontown roadways.

With no snow to hide the litter, volunteers broke with tradition and staged a January mini-cleanup of borough roadways.  Helga Schuette and Louis Kane took the initiative and spent several chilly hours picking up trash thrown in the gutters and walkways on Reynolds Drive, Wyckoff Road near Toys R Us and on 35 south of the Cabaret.

They filled seven large garbage bags and collected approximately 500 pounds of trash.

While others were heedlessly tossing their burger wrappers, soda containers, and we-don’t-want-to-know-what, they brightened a chunk of , at least temporarily, on their own time and using their own equipment.  Kane, a professional landscaper and owner of Sienna Landscaping LLC, donated not only his time and energy, but the trash bags and protective gear.

The Pride committee hopes this will be the kick-off to a successful anti-litter campaign in 2012.  The Annual Eatontown Borough Cleanup is scheduled for Sunday, April 22, in conjunction with Earth Week.  Last year 42 borough residents volunteered in the cleanup.  The Pride committee hopes to top that this year.

With the 2012 slogan “Save Your Cash; Stash the Trash, $500 fine for Littering” PIE wants to prevent litter accumulation.

Thank you so much to the PIE volunteers. It was a cold day to be out there and it makes this outing so appreciated! PIE you rock!
