In Our Own Voice : Living with Mental Illness

This is an anti stigma education program to help reduce thes stigma facing those who live with mental illness and those that love them.

May and Mental health month is winding down now. However still 1 and 4 folks either know someone who lives with it or has mental health issues themselves.I know this as I am one.I coordinate a free speaker presentation run through the National Alliance for Mental Illness. I will include information below. We are looking for places that our presentation will help others. My big goal is to reach out to high school kids. It breaks my heart to hear of teen suicides in Monmouth county and anywhere else.  I am scheduling presentations now through the fall throughout the state. Please visit our facebook page or contact me to help break the stigma of mental illness one audience at a time.In Our Own Voice: Living with Mental Illness is an effective program at bringing real-life stories about mental health recovery into the community. Our association uses it in more than half of US states, and we average 180 presentations a year around NJ. It works for a variety of college groups, from awareness events and psychology clubs (we work with the Psi Beta groups on several NJ campuses) to classes in psychology, social work, human services, nursing, and education. We also do police and staff in services, as well as churches, synagogues, civic groups, etc. You will hear from 2 live volunteers, who will intersperse their stories with showing of segments from a DVD. The people and DVD speakers will address their dark days, acceptance, relationship to treatment, coping skills, and successes, hopes, and dreams. They will answer audience questions, and ask attendees to fill out a very short evaluation form. We do not discuss specifics of psychiatric diagnosis or treatment modalities, but refer attendees to sources, notably those linked on our Face book page, www.facebook.com/naminjioovThere is no charge for a presentation, and what we would need from you is a credible guess of audience size, an hour of time to present, and the use of a TV/DVD. If a room is lecture half size, we also prefer the use of a sound system.Jill Zwick BSW 732-571-2136 ioov@naminj.org Scheduling Coordinator In Our Own Voice: Living with Mental Illness NAMI NEW JERSEY www.naminj.org Please visit us on facebook www.facebook.com/naminjioov
