“Many wounded survived during the Vietnam War thanks to critical advances in medical procedures performed on the battlefield,” said Sarah Hagarty, Foundation Curator. “Combat Medics, like Jack Manick, were referred to as “Docs” and their life-saving contributions reunited countless Veterans with their families. Please join us on April 12 as we experience history first-hand with Manick, New Jersey author and friend of the Foundation.”

Jack “Doc” Manick of Colonia, NJ volunteered for military service in 1968. He served a Tour of Duty in Vietnam as a Combat Medic spending the remainder of his three-year obligation spread among Hospital and Infantry Duty in German and the U.S. His military service was with the 1st and 24th Infantry Divisions, the 70th Combat Engineers and U.S. Army Europe.

In his recent book, “Incoming…The Men of the 70th” (2013), Manick invites readers to lace up their boots and take a walk with him through the jungles and fields of dry grass in the Central Highlands of Vietnam in 1969. While in the “Bush”, Manick carried an unbreakable commitment to save the lives of his fellow soldiers, even at the cost of his own.
