What Should Go Here? Sea View Towers in Long Branch

Developer plans on building new apartment building

The Sea View Towers at 392 Ocean Ave., Long Branch, have been sitting untouched for several years and are now used solely for military training exercises.

However, the owner of the property is now looking to build something new on the area.

Long Branch Business Administrator Howard Woolley said the owners are planning on demolishing the buildings and creating a lone tower that would house apartments.

Woolley said the tower would also be set back farther from the road and that angled parking would be created on the roadway out of the lots to increase parking in the area.

"Obviously if someone was able to keep that place closed and pay the taxes on it for all this time, they have some deep pockets," Woolley said this week. "These folks do and the housing they are creating down there is extraordinary."

The project would have to get the necessary approvals from the city before it can move forward.

We will let you know when the project is scheduled to appear before the Long Branch Zoning Board of Adjustment or Planning Board.

We want to hear from you as well. What do you think of the proposed project?

Would you like to see more apartments in this area, or something different?

Almost anything would be better than a venue for military training exercises in the middle of a residential area - and they weren't doing sit-ups either. BTW, how did that happen in the first place? Is the parcel zoned for explosions and gunfire? Isn't Earle big enough? Was that a consequence of the closure of Fort Monmouth? Seriously, and calmly, I'd like to know.

I already left a message regarding my feelings of the Sea View Towers. As a former resident for numerous years, I feel it is a disgrace to just force people who have spent so many years of their life time there, to just be forced out and for nothing to happen to the property for years! Now what Happens?? I think everyone who was involved in this issue...has their own thoughts and ideas as to what was to happen to this property. I believe most of us were right. If this property is to be renovated and then offered to the public, I believe it should be offered to the tenants who occupied them prior to their eviction at a reasonable and fair price. Weather it be for the price of a Condo..or the rental fee for an apartment. It should be afforded to the previous tenants first. Thank you.

My Brother and his new wife lived there in 1994 and I always enjoy going to visit them and the people who lived in this building, this is just a shame that these 2 nice buildings with great pools and a ocean views have been sitting empty all these years. This reminds me of the property in Sea Bright of the old big beautiful beach club that burned to the ground and was to have Condo's built on that spot and it is only a parking lot.

why ask what should go there when it says "Woolley said the owners are planning on demolishing the buildings and creating a lone tower that would house apartments." just like the story what should replace the larchwood when it stated its going to be town houses and a few low income units. stupid title when the article answers the question the opinions are just for arguments not news.

Why did military training need to be in ocean front property? What a waste... Not to mention eyesore

I grew up in Sea Bright, and when the Peninsula House burnt down, :( I was very glad that they didn't build condos in it's place. Sea Bright is a small town and does not need any more condos that's for sure! They did, however, need the parking. Although, the lot could use a make over.

Does anyone in Long Branch understand the concept of free enterprise in a capitalist society or are we all really doomed to the new Barack Hussein Obama Socialism that he is bringing to this country?

They do this training in most of the surrounding towns...they need to train in residential areas in order to know what to do if a residential area is attacked. They know more than we know so if this is something they feel is necessary let them go for it.

I run past every day. I am disturbed to see broken windows. Looking forward to renting one of the new oceanfront apartments to one of my clients.

I would like to see affordable 1, 2, and 3 bedroom condos for sale as well as rental apartments on the same property.
