Long Branch firefighters, EMS and office of emergency management personnel were honored during a ceremony held at city hall on Nov. 21 for the job they did during Hurricane Sandy.

"I knew (Office of Emergency Management Coordinator) Stan (Dziuba) the firefighters and OEM and everybody in this room would all come together," Mayor Adam Schneider said during the ceremony. "I also knew the community would step up."

Members of each of the city's volunteer fire companies were given awards for their acts of selflessness and heroism during and after the hurricane.

Schneider even gave certificates of recognition to the local businesses that contributed food and shelter to so many last year, including Charley's Ocean Grill, Stop and Shop and Ocean Place Resort & Spa.
