Long Branch Fire Department Holding Food Drive

The food will be distributed to Long Branch Food Banks.

By Christopher Sheldon

The Long Branch Fire Department is currently holding its annual food drive for city food banks.

The department is collecting non-perishable food such as canned goods, cereal, soups and other boxed foods until Dec. 20.

Those who would like to donate an item can drop it off from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. at the following locations:

• Union and Third Avenue Firehouse (fire headquarters behind McDonald's)

• 2nd and Montgomery Avenue Firehouse (West End Firehouse)

The fire department said local food banks are "extremely low" for the holiday season.

Local food banks include St. Luke's United Methodist Pantry, St. Michael's and St. Vincent DePaul Society and St. Brigid's Food Pantry at St. James Episcopal Church.
