Mold Remediation Workshop, Sponsored by Affordable Housing Alliance

Eatontown, NJ – January 18, 2013 A Mold Remediation Workshop will be offered on Tuesday, February 12, at the Asbury Park Press building at 3601 Highway 66 in Neptune NJ. This workshop is presented by the Affordable Housing Alliance and NeighborWorks America. Instruction is provided by The National Center for Healthy Housing.

A morning session (8:45 am to 12:45 pm) will share up-to-date information about health risks, pre-work inspections, work set-up and staging, systematic clean-out and proper tear-out procedures and more information important for contractors, building inspectors and other housing professionals working on mold remediation.

An afternoon session (1:45 pm to 5:45 pm) will instruct homeowners and other interested members of the public about these same issues as well share helpful information on retrofit upgrade considerations for energy savings, healthy housing-related materials and equipment, and tips for hiring mold remediation professionals. 

“Mold will continue to be a serious health issue and an obstacle to successful, long-term rebuilding,” says Donna M. Blaze, CEO of the Affordable Housing Alliance. “Many so-called experts are out there but both building professionals and homeowners need to have the most current information from a credible non-profit organization like the National Center for Healthy Housing and NeighborWorks America in order to make the right decisions, not get gouged financially, and most importantly, take the correct steps to eliminate mold permanently. Mold is a significant health risk which can be treated superficially and then recur in the spring and summer, once the weather gets warmer. Choosing the right materials, the right remediation techniques and the right contractor is very important.”

The National Center for Healthy Housing develops and promotes practical methods to protect children and families from environmental health hazards in their homes. Working with the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, HUD and US Environmental Protection Agency, it develops training programs to help states, cities and communities effectively identify and address housing-related hazards.

The National Center for Healthy Housing operates the National Healthy Homes Training Center through a cooperative agreement with the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and support from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development and the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency. The Training Center is aimed at helping states, cities, and community-based organizations effectively identify and address housing-related hazards.
