BAY2OCEAN30: The Endless Summer Walk - 2013

Do you wish summer would never end? The FreeWalkers have found a way to push the boundaries of that season by declaring September 28 this year to be our last summer day and one that is sure to be a great one for a final summer-like walk.

The bay2ocean30: The Endless Summer Walk is a unique long distance walk along the interesting and beautiful New Jersey coast. We start at the Aberdeen/Matawan train station near Keyport in the bay area and work out way east to Sandy Hook then south along the ocean all the way down to Asbury Park for a total of 30 miles - all in one day.

Due to the destruction of hurricane Sandy, some of the coast is still in the process of repair. The northern Henry Hudson Trail is in good condition except for the Bayshore trail after Atlantic Highlands, which at this point is closed. This year the walk goes up and over the 266 foot Mt. Mitchell, the highest point along the eastern coast south of Maine. The spectacular view will make up for the extra climb.

We hope you will join us in the walk and consider a donation to Habitat for Humanity which is busy working in the Union Beach area rebuilding homes in the flooded bayshore area.

Our walk continues along Ocean Avenue through Long Branch. We also will be trying a great new ending venue at Porta in Asbury Park, right behind the Stone Pony. It's a warehouse-looking place with great artisanal pizza, beer, and outdoor bocce court (about 1/2 mile from the train station).
