Tinton Falls Clearing Storm Drains in Preparation For Tropical Storm

The storm is expected to bring heavy rainfall to the area.

As Tropical Storm Andrea begins to make its way toward New Jersey, Tinton Falls officials are preparing for the heavy rainfall it is expected to bring.

"By the time it reaches New Jersey we should only see its remnants as a low pressure system that produces heavy rainfall," Tinton Falls Mayor Michael Skudera said in an email to borough residents.

Skudera said the National Weather Service has issued a Flash Flood Watch for Monmouth County from late Thursday night through late Friday night.

"As a precaution, Public Works has cleared the storm drains of debris to reduce the impact of potential flooding," Skudera said in the email. "Hopefully Andrea will not cause any damage, however my administration will continue to monitor this storm until it has passed."

Hurricane Sandy did not cause major flooding or damage in Tinton Falls last year, but it did weaken and knock down power lines, causing wide-spread outages throughout the borough.
