UPDATE: Long Branch Police Arrest Man Who Barricaded Himself in Brighton Avenue Home

Authorities were involved in standoff for several hours

The Long Branch Police have arrested a man who barricaded himself in a Brighton Avenue home on Monday.

The Long Branch Police and several other law enforcement agencies were involved in a standoff with with the man for several hours before taking him into custody.

Long Branch Public Safety Director Jason Roebuck said the subject is being taken to a hospital pysch ward for evaluation.

Roebuck said no one has been killed, but that the subject did assault his father before barricading himself in the home.

Roebuck said the man had a knife and machete when he was captured.

Long Branch police have blocked off Brighton Avenue between 2nd Avenue and Sairs Avenue to pedestrian and vehicular traffic. West End businesses were also been closed as a precaution.

The roads and businesses were reopened at 9 p.m.
