Eatontown Recreation is Heating up for Summer

Eatontown Rec is planning a roster of family events for residents to enjoy throughout the season.

Grab your fishing pole and sunscreen because the Eatontown Recreation Advisory Committee has a full calendar of events for families in the borough this summer.

  • Youth Fishing Derby, Saturday, June 4, 8 a.m. to 10 a.m. -- This old-fashioned morning of fishing fun will take place at Wampum Park Pond and is only open to children. Award ceremony begins promptly at 10 a.m. and prizes will be given out for the most fish caught, biggest fish and most unique fish and there will be raffle prizes as well. Participants are responsible for supplying their own fishing poles and tackle. Organizers are still looking for sponsors and volunteers and those interested can send an e-mail here. (A flyer for the event can be found to the right of this article in the photo gallery.)
  • Track Meet, Saturday, June 11, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. -- Geared towards kids not involved in baseball and softball, this meet at Fort Monmouth will feature seven events but planning is essential: all drivers will need to get fort clearance. To do so, contact the rec department here.
  • 2011 Summer Day Camp, July 5 through August 12 -- The camp is held at Wolcott Park from 9 a.m. to noon, Monday through Friday and there are five day trips planned for an added cost. Patch is working on a comprehensive summer camp round up this week and will get you all the details for sign ups.
  • Eatontown 17th Annual 5K Labor Day Race, Monday, September 5 -- A borough tradition, the event offers lots of ways to get moving -- from the 5K Leisure Walk, to the One-Mile Run and the 5K Run and 5K Race Walk. The race course starts at the Sheraton Hotel and the registration fee gets you a cutome t-shirt and 5K glass. Start training now and go to the photo gallery to the left of this article to download the registration form.
