Don't Worry, Be Crabby at Monmouth Park this Weekend

'The Shore's Greatest Stretch' hosts the Fifth Annual Shore Chef Crab Cake Cook-Off this weekend.

On Saturday, Aug. 20, and Sunday, Aug. 21, will be hosting the Annual Shore Chef Crab Cake Cook-Off. Attendees should show up hungry, as New Jersey’s premier restaurants and caterers will be serving up some of the best crab cakes, as well as other seafood dishes and seafood-enhancing sides.

Defending their 2010 Best Crab Cake honor will be Bahr’s Landing of Highlands. Twice winning the People’s Choice Best Crab Cake, as well as taking home the Best Of The Rest honor in 2009, Mud City Crab Cake Company of Forked River will be trying to add to their previous accomplishments.

Besides the above mentioned honors, participating seafood vendors will also have a chance to win Best Of The Breeze honors. Randy Davis and Eric Vogt of The Breeze FM 107.1 and 99.7 FM will be on hand on Saturday from 11 a.m. until 3 p.m.

A special judging will take place on Sunday involving presentation, flavor and texture. As of press time, some of the judges scheduled to appear are 90.5 The Night’s Michele McBride, Big Dog Pete Genovese of the Star-Ledger Munchmobile, Deborah Smith of Jersey Bites and Chef James Conroy.

Participating in their first year will be Southern Smoke Cajun & Caribbean BBQ of Wall, Carmine In The Kitchen’s The Fritter Fella and Greenlight Food Service.

Other food vendors scheduled to be on hand include A-maize-ing Roast, the of Freehold, Festival Island Noodles, Fresh Fruit Cup, , Kona Ice, Lizzmonade LLC and The Happy Clam of Highlands.

Tasty delights such as Monkfish Empanada, Monmouth Park’s Clam Chowder, Creole Butter Boiled Shrimp, Brownie & Chocolate Chip Fritters, Conch Fritters, Soft Shell Crab Sandwiches and Corn & Crab Chowder will be available for purchase from the numerous food vendors, as well as many other creations

There will be plenty of vendors and attractions for the kids. On Saturday, the Rock ‘N’ Roll Chorus is scheduled to appear, while Sunday’s musical entertainment will be the Larry Stevens Band. All of this for only the $3 Grandstand Admission!
