120,000 Still Without Power, Flood Warnings Monday

There are still more than 120,000 people without power in Monmouth County Monday morning as the National Weather Service has put portions under a flood warning.

The service issued the flood warning for southern Monmouth and northern Ocean counties at 5 a.m., saying the north branch of the Matedeconk River and the Squankum River at Manasqan remained above flood stage. The warning is in effect until 1 p.m.

Flooding has not been a major issue in Long Branch, but there have been some reports that some side streets were experiencing minor flooding throughout the city.

Jersey Central Power & Light Monday morning is reporting that 120,718 are without power in the county, down from more than 140,000 on Sunday.

In Long Branch, the number of those without power has also decreased to 1,399, from more than 4,000 on Sunday.

JCP&L is also showing that there are no customers in West Long Branch without power; there was more than 700 at one point on Sunday.

And in Wall Township, 2,593 customers are without electricity, down from about 4,000 on Sunday as crews work to re-establish connections.

Coastal communities hard hit by floods brought by Hurricane Irene are also dealing with widespread power outages. In Manasquan, JCP&L reports 3,043 without power; Spring Lake and Spring Lake Heights have 2,461 and 1,960, respectively.

JCP&L also reports that 1,779 customers in Brielle are without power, as well as 341 in Belmar and 749 in Avon.

Hardest hit appears to be Freehold, where 13,584 are without power Monday morning, according to the company.

There was no word from the power company early Monday if there were projections on how long power would be out for those affected. The company has previously declined to project, however.
