Pennoni Awarded Oceanfront Survey Contract

Pennoni Associates was awarded a contract by the City of Long Branch to carry out an oceanfront survey of its beaches, boardwalk, and eastern-most roadways. The survey will include the beachfront bluff that was damaged by Hurricane Sandy in 2012.

This survey will use airborne and ground-based Lidar as well as state-of-the-art high definition laser scanning. After assessing the conditions of the bluff, which helps to support the boardwalk, the survey will assist the City of Long Branch in choosing a new design for it. Pennoni will additionally survey the five arterial roads that extend from Ocean Avenue to Ocean Boulevard to see how much damage they suffered from the storm. The roads include Brighton Avenue, West End Avenue, Cottage Place, South Bath Avenue, and North Bath Avenue.

Pennoni offers support to communities affected by natural disasters through the restorative and recovery processes. The beaches along the Atlantic Coast are continually under siege by Mother Nature. While many enjoy days spent at the shore, few realize how much effort goes into maintaining this ever-changing landscape. To assist communities in responding to the increased frequency and intensity of storm events, Pennoni has developed a decision support tool for improving coastal resilience. Pennoni’s Coastal Resilience Toolkit provides the basics tools necessary to measure a community’s preparedness for coastal storms and provide guidance on how to plan and respond before, during and after a major flooding event.
