WindMill Restaurant Opens New Location in Hoboken

The new WindMill restaurant is now open at 79 Hudson Street.

A taste of the Jersey Shore has come to Hoboken. WindMill, the hot dog chain popular among New Jersey beachgoers, opened its first Hoboken location at 79 Hudson Street on Monday. The chain has won many awards, including from the reputable Zagat survey.

Roger Corrado, who owns the Hoboken WindMill with his business partner Tim Cochrane, said he used to eat at the WindMill in Belmar while vacationing there as a child with his family.

"I have a lot of good memories from this place," Corrado said.

Corrado and Cochrane bought the franchise rights to open a WindMill in Hoboken in 2007. Corrado said they had been looking for the right location before settling on the one downtown.

“I thought it would be perfect here. This is a popular part of town,” Corrado said.

Corrado, who along with Cochrane had a long career working on Wall Street, grew up in Hoboken, and several of his relatives still live here including his mother.

While WindMill's core product is its hot dog, the restaurant also serves hamburgers, chicken wings and ribeye steak sandwiches, plus french fries, veggie burgers and salads.

Corrado said he and Cochrane want their restaurant to be considered a destination, where regular customers will gather. The restaurant offers music and three flat screen televisions, and also a large mural along the back wall. Corrado said he and Cochrane are planning on having theme days that cater to seniors, children and Stevens students among other groups.

“We want the vibe to be a fun, hip place,” Corrado said. “And we really want to be involved in the community.”

Corrado said that after its current soft opening the Hoboken WindMill will have a grand opening party in May that features some special guests.

The Hoboken WindMill will be open from 10:30 a.m. to 1 a.m. every Sunday through Wednesday, and from 10:30 a.m. to 4 a.m. every Thursday through Saturday. Corrado said the restaurant expects to employ 15 people and that he and Cochrane are accepting applications for open positions.
