For 125 years, Monmouth Medical Center has served the public in a variety of capacities and will be celebrated for all its achievements on Wednesday, Sept. 12.
An anniversary celebration event will be held at the hospital at 1 p.m. and will be attended by Long Branch Mayor Adam Schneider and several members of the Monmouth Medical Center staff including President Dr. Frank Vozos.
Hospital administrators will give a brief historical overview of Monmouth Medical Center, and a plaque created by the Long Branch Historical Association will be unveiled. The plaque signifies that the hospital will be part of the History Trail being developed throughout the city.
Monmouth Medical Center began as several rented rooms above Arnold's Delicatessen on Broadway in 1887. A group of businessmen rented the rooms so local children could be treated for a medical epidemic that struck the area that year. Monmouth Memorial Hospital was officially opened on Thursday, April 30, 1891, and was later renamed Monmouth Medical Center.
