Giant Pick: Popcorn Park's Princess Spot On Again

Prognosticating camel improves record to 15-6 for this season after New York's Super Bowl victory

Some say elephants are wise. But how about the camel? Princess the camel from Popcorn Park Zoo was right on… again.

For all who had their doubts during the Patriot’s last run with 57 seconds left on the clock, Princess was sure the New York Giants would take the Super Bowl.

“She already got extra treats this morning,” said John Bergmann, manager of Popcorn Park. “She was a happy girl this morning. She’s all smiles.”

Each year, , including the Super Bowl.

Princess makes her decisions based on graham crackers, Bergman said. Each week, Bergmann writes the names of two teams competing and holds a graham cracker, Princess’ favorite snack, in each hand. Princess then chooses to eat the treat from the hand with the name of her favorite team written on it.

Her reward if she’s spot on? Extra graham crackers.

After last night's win, Princess improved her record to 15-6 for this season and 89-51 since she began prognosticating in 2006. Her Super Bowl record is now 7-1.

“I think it’s unbelievable,” Bergmann said. “I’m a Giants fan but I didn’t really expect them to win yesterday. She picked them, and she knew what she was doing.”

Princess arrived at Popcorn Park after her owner passed away and a caretaker retired to another state. The Associated Humane Societies brought her to Popcorn Park and it has been her home ever since.

Popcorn Park Zoo was established in 1977 and provides a refuge for wildlife, exotic and domestic animals that are sick, elderly, abandoned, abused, or injured. The zoo houses more than 200 animals and birds.
