The Eatontown Lions Club will be hosting their 15th annual Phil Wellington Memorial Golf Outing on Thursday, June 13 at the Jumping Brook Country Club in Neptune starting at 1PM.   Slots are still available for those who wish to play.  There  are also several sponsorship opportunities open.   Proceeds from the event
go to fund The Captain James Gurbisz Foundation and the Fisher House
Foundation.   The Gurbisz Foundation is named in honor of James Gurbisz, a
native and resident of Eatontown who died in Iraq while serving his country on
November 5, 2005.  The Foundation Provides activities for middle school youth
and also funds the annual Captain Gurbisz Monmouth Regional High School
Scholarship Fund.  The Fisher House Foundation provides a “home away from
home
” for military families to be close to a loved one during hospitalization for an illness, disease or an injury.

The tournament originally began as more of an informal gathering of Lions Club Members with the purpose of raising funds for its local community projects.  Over the years the Lions have contributed to the Eatotnown community with projects such as building the pavilion at Wolcott Park as well as part of  the purchase and LED signboard in the downtown which lists local events.  With the passing of Eatontown Lion Phil Wellington approximately eight years ago, the tournament took on its current name in his honor.
