It's February and it's Black History Month,  which means in only
twenty-eight short days, we try to celebrate over 400 years of
achievements of black Americans and recognizethe central role of African Americans in U.S. history.

It is also the 25th Annual African American Read In
In February 2014, you may hold an African American Read-In event any day of the month, Saturday, February 1-Friday, February 28, 2014
Schools, churches, libraries, bookstores, community and professional organizations, and interested citizens are urged to make literacy a significant part of Black History Month by hosting and coordinating Read-Ins in their communities. Hosting a Read-In can be as simple as bringing together friends to share a book, or as elaborate as arranging public readings and media presentations that feature professional African American writers.

Richard Wright collaborated with photo-director Edwin Rosskam to produce 12 Million Black Voices: A Folk History of the Negro in the United States.
The combination of Wright’s prose with photos from the Farm Security Administration files narrates a history of African-American life that feels very much like a documentary film.
Mr. Saretzky will also discuss the Golden Age of Documentary Photography Books In 1941.

These events are approved and recommended by the
