Tuesday, February 11-Discussion on New Jersey’s African-American soldiers


Joe Bilby, the assistant curator of the National Guard Militia Museum of New Jersey, will talk today at 7PM about New Jersey’s African-American soldiers from the Revolutionary War to post World War II, highlighting the Civil War era.

It will take place at the Holmdel Historical Society monthly meeting in the Holmdel Senior Community Center on Crawfords Corner Road. 
New members are always welcome. Please feel free to bring a friend. Light refreshments are always available and always delicious. 

Born in Newark, NJ, Bilby received his BA and MA degrees in history from Seton Hall University and served as a lieutenant with the First Infantry Division in Vietnam. He is a member of the Irish Brigade Association, the North-South Skirmish Association and the Outdoor Writers Association of America. He is the author of over 200 articles on history and outdoor subjects, editor or author of 18 books on New Jersey and Civil War history, consultant for several television programs on the Civil War, and recipient of awards for his contribution to the preservation of the history of New Jersey.
