Sunday, January 19-Social Action Film


Tonight at 6:00 PM is your chance to see and hear the documentary film, 
 THE PEOPLE SPEAK! at the Unitarian Universalist Congregation of MC,
 1475 West Front Street, Lincroft 

You are invited to make your most rousing two-minute speech on a topic of your choice as part of our post-film discussion.
Light refreshments and discussion after the film.

The People Speak is a 2009 American documentary feature film that uses dramatic and musical performances of the letters, diaries, and speeches of everyday Americans. The film gives voice to those who, by insisting on equality and justice, spoke up forsocial change throughout U.S. history
and also illustrates the relevance of this to today's society.
The film is narrated by historian Howard Zinn and is based on his books A People's History of the United States and, with
Anthony Arnove, Voices of a People's History of the United States.

The People Speak is produced by Matt Damon, Josh Brolin, Chris Moore, Anthony Arnove, and Howard Zinn. It is co-directed by Moore, Arnove and Zinn.

On Thursday, December 12, FrankTalk Multimedia,
the T. Thomas Fortune Project and the Red Bank Public Library Presented THE PEOPLE SPEAK LIVE! at the Red Bank Public Library.
The introduction part of the film, THE PEOPLE SPEAK, was shown and
tonight (Sunday, January 19) you are invited to see it in it's entirety. 

On Thursday, December 12, People from the community stood up one by
one and read the words of significant figures in American history, ranging from Frederick Douglass, Susan B. Anthony, Cesar Chavez and Harvey Milk, to Justice Sonia Sotomayor and Red Bank's own African American
journalist T. Thomas Fortune.

This event is approved and recommended by the
T. Thomas Fortune Project
 A committee to raise funds for the purchase, rehabilitation and
repurposing of the home of T, Thomas Fortune at 94 Drs. James Parker Blvd in Red Bank, New Jersey.
