Final event will be held at Long Branch Free Public Library

The iPoet event in Long Branch has been a smashing success, but like most good things, it is coming to an end this month.

The event wraps its season of performance poetry showcases at the Long Branch Free Public Library on Saturday, June 11, it will join forces in a special presentation with Loser Slam.

Loser Slam is a performance poetry cooperative which has weekly workshops, tournaments and open mic events at Long Branch favorite, The Inkwell.

The fourth and final edition of iPoet 2011 will be an expanded session that kicks off with a workshop for aspiring poets.

Poets of all levels of experience and skill are invited to bring examples of their writing to the workshop portion of the program, which is scheduled to run from noon to 1:30 p.m. inside the library’s Community Room. Registration is open to all ages, and topics of discussion will include composing an effective poem and performing it.

There will be a break with complimentary refreshments following the workshop, and the program will resume at 2 p.m. At that time, participants will be able to perform their poems.

Writer, storyteller and Loser Slam charter member Nicole Homer will conduct the workshop and host the performance program.

The program is sponsored by the Long Branch Arts Council, Long Branch Historical Association and the Long Branch Free Public Library.

Those who wish to participate on June 11 can still register for the workshop by obtaining a sign-up form from Long Branch Free Public Library Director of Outreach and Adult Programming Kate Angelo, at kangelo@lmxac.org. Admission to iPoet is free of charge, and participants are encouraged to bring family and friends.
