'Play-It-Forward' Drive Helps Replace Youth Sporting Goods Swept Away By Sandy

The private event requires registration and is only open to grammar school and high school athletes in the Shore Regional District.

When floodwater poured into many of the homes in the area, it destroyed not only couches and flooring but swept away much of the sports equipment stored in garage after garage. Gone were the lacrosse sticks, baseball mitts and cleats counted on by many of the area's younger athletes.

Students at Westfield (NJ) High School are conducting a “Play It Forward-A Shore Thing” sporting goods drive for the impacted families of the Shore Regional Community, including any child in Monmouth Beach, Sea Bright, Oceanport or West Long Branch.

The drive is just one of a number held by Sandy Family Match, organized to serve as a "virtual giving tree" to help those affected by Hurricane Sandy.

Items donated include: new or gently used Gloves, Helmets, Balls, Sticks, Bats, Cleats, Padding, Skates, etc. Sports Authority has also made donations.

This private event will be held on Saturday March 2nd and Sunday March 3rd at the Parish Center in Monmouth Beach. Click here to register for the drive, which  is required for admittance. Each child needs to be registered separately.
