PHOTOS: Zombies Invade Asbury Park Boardwalk

Estimated 15,000 participants invade Asbury for fifth annual walk

The Asbury Park boardwalk looked more like the set of "The Walking Dead" on Saturday as thousands of people gathered for the New Jersey Zombie Walk.

The fifth annual event saw people come out dressed as the undead as they took a ghoulish walk along the boardwalk in Asbury before a huge crowd.

According to the Zombie Walk Facebook page, more than 15,000 people participated in the walk and more than 5,000 came as spectators. The previous record for the world's largest gathering of zombies, according to Guinness World Records, was just over 4,000 in Asbury Park in 2010, making this weekend's event the most successful zombie walk in history.

Makeup artists were on hand to transform people into zombies, while others did their own makeup and showed up ready for an afternoon of horror.

Robert Lisiesky was on hand to snap some photos of the walk.

If you have photos from the zombie walk that you would like to share, simply upload the to the story or e-mail them to christopher.sheldon@patch.com.

I'm sick and tired of the exploitation of this misunderstood and often-shunned group. Yes, friends: zombies are - or were - people too. Have any of you ever gotten to know a zombie? Invited them to lunch? Offered a bit of yourself as lunch? Some fob them off with well-meaning comments such as "they looked amazing," but zombies have so much more to offer our community than their striking appearance ... creative cuisine, for instance. Perhaps a zombie restaurant for that vacant lot in West End?

You mean they weren't real zombies? Another myth shattered. How sad - rather like a life without fun and recreation.

I will drive through the area tomorrow to see if I spot anything! Try googling volunteer searchRead More groups for missing dogs. There are a few in the NJ area. Also ask the local SPCA and Humane Society to see if they can lend you humane traps. Try patrolling the area with food of a strong odor...raw meat, steak, etc. Search in tiny groups and split up to avoid scaring him away, and always bring food and a leash in case you have to lure him over and then leash him. Try also sitting in the area last spotted quietly to see if he approaches you. Bring food so he smells it. Just a few things I have learned while doing some dog searches. Keep sharing and put up posters locally...it helps!
