New Traffic Light To Be Installed at Parker Road/Locust Avenue Intersection

Work to reconfigure the roadway with dedicated turning lanes is also underway.

Work to make changes at one of West Long Branch's biggest intersections has begun as crews begin to reconfigure the corner of Locust Avenue and Parker Road.

A traffic light will be installed at the intersection, which often gets congested during the time when students get out of Frank Antonides and Shore Regional, and does not feature any dedicated turning lanes.

A right turn lane is being added to Parker Road and a left turn lane is being added on Locust Avenue. Frank Antonides agreed to give up a small portion of its property so enough space could be available for the right turn lane on Parker Road.

Frank Antonides will also feature a reconfigured parking lot for student drop off and pick up and the entrance to the Community Center will also be modified so drivers can only enter and exit the community center at the new traffic signal.

Monmouth County presented the plans to modify the intersection back in 2011, and will be performing the construction.

Detours are currently in place while the work is being completed, and you can read the West Long Branch Police's detailed warning to residents by clicking here.
