Local Family to Hold Fundraiser for Autism

One-mile walk at Pier Village set for Oct. 1

Every day, Amy Huizenga wakes up and works with the bravest person she has ever met.

It is all part of a daily routine for Howell resident Huizenga, who is a mother of four children from ages four to one.

From doing normal activities to some of the more difficult things on a daily basis, Huizenga works closely with her three-year old son, Bradley, who was diagnosed with Autism last year.

In an effort to raise awareness of Autism, as well as bring together the community and help raise funds to find a cure of it, Huizenga and her family decided to enter 'Team Bradley" into a one-mile fund-raising walk at Pier Village on Oct. 1.

"We walked in last year's event and saw that other kid's had teams," Huizenga said, "We were really moved by the huge teams of people that have come together. We want Bradley to have that kind of support, too."

Huizenga notes that her family battles with Austim every day and that it is difficult to see her son struggle.

The walk, taking place at Pier Village on Oct. 1, is expected to have a number of teams, but Huizenga is hopeful that Team Bradley will have a good turnout, with around 15 people already registered.

"The support for Bradley and our family helps us know that we are not in this alone and that others will stand by us and help fight Autism."

Bradley currently is in the pre-school program for the Howell public schools, which his family says is an excellent program,

If interested in registering, the Huizenga family asks that you sign up at walknowforautismspeaks.org/njs/teambradley.

The check-in time for the walk is 10 a.m. and the walk starts at noon.
