Homes, Townhomes Proposed For Takanasee Beach Site

The property owner has presented informal plans to build 13 homes at the site.

The owner of the former site of Takanassee Beach Club in Long Branch has unveiled plans to build a group of single family and duplex-style homes in the area.

Owner Issac Chera presented plans to build 5 single family homes and 8 duplexes on the site during an informal hearing at the July 16 Long Branch Planning Board meeting, according to Long Branch Planning Board Chairman Edward Thomas.

Thomas said the five single family homes would face the oceanfront and the duplexes would be located along the lake. He said the proposed single family homes would contain a lot of stainless steel and glass.

Thomas said Chera would have to maintain the public beach access point on his property, because it is mandated by the state.

The plan to build the homes would have to be formally presented to the Long Branch Planning Board and approved before any construction can take place.

Currently, the site is an empty lot that leads to an unguarded beach.

There were three historic buildings on the site, and two were moved to a private residence on Ocean Avenue to be preserved. The third was destroyed by Hurricane Sandy in October.
