Gallery: Michael Thorne Run/Walk

A collection of photos and video from Sunday's race in West Long Branch

The Ninth Annual Michael W. Thorne Scholarship Run/Walk was held on Sunday, May 15 at 9 a.m. at Franklin Lake in West Long Branch.

The 4-mile race is held every year in memory of West Long Branch Fireman Michael W. Thorne, who died while fighting a fire at Monmouth University in 1984.

There were 402 participants in the race, and the first-place runner was Sebastian Lamorte, 43, of Staten Island, who finished with a time of 23:19. He was followed by Pat Ford, 51, of Neptune City with a time of 23:46 and Dactilia Booth, 35, of Long Branch, who finished with a time of 24:51.

Race coordinators say they are already planning next year's run which will be held on May 20, 2012, and will mark the tenth anniversary of the event.
