As the Labor Day weekend winds down there are some delays on the roads in the Jersey Shore area, but not many as of 4 p.m. According to the New Jersey Turnpike Authority, there are delays reported on the northbound side of Exit 91 reaching all the way to the Monmouth Service Area. That seven mile delay is being attributed to volume on the roadway.  There are also delays reported on the Parkway north south of exit 77 that stretches to Exit 81. The Labor Day weekend rush had not descended on the Jersey Shore area as of 5 p.m. on Friday night.  According to the New Jersey Turnpike Authority there are no reported problems on the Garden State Parkway in our area. There is an accident on Route 88 between Clover St. in Lakewood and New Hampshire Ave. in Lakewood. A pole is down as a result of the accident and all lanes are closed until further notice. There is also heavy volume reported on Route 195 east reaching from Exit 1 for Route 206 in Hamilton all the way to Exit 6 for the New Jersey Turnpike in Robbinsville.

With each week that goes by, Labor Day weekend gets closer, bringing an end to another summer season here on the Jersey Shore. The traffic is already picking up as locals and visitors to the area make one of their last trips to our area. The weather forecast for the Jersey Shore region has been anything but pleasant today, which has made for a messy time on both the local and statewide roadways.  According to the New Jersey Turnpike Authority there are delays and floods reported on the roads making for a difficult trip for those travelers going away from and through our area.  Flooding has been reported on Route 35 south near Route 37 in Seaside Heights which has closed all the lanes on the roadway. For motorists on the road this Friday evening, the traffic looks to be considerably worse on the west side of the state, while the Monmouth and Ocean county areas have not hit their peak as of 4:30 p.m.. The New Jersey Turnpike Authority is reporting only one problem on the Garden State Parkway so far. For as busy as the commute was on both the local roads and highways in the area on Friday night, the traffic appears that much lighter on Sunday night. The New Jersey Turnpike Authority is reporting very few if any delays on both the Garden State Parkway and the New Jersey Turnpike as of 7 p.m.  In fact, there are no reported problems on the Parkway along the entire length of the major roadway that is normally packed with summer traffic. Labor Day is just a few weeks away, but there are still plenty of people making their way down to the Jersey Shore on Friday evening as the summer winds down. As expected, one of the hardest hit roadways is the Garden State Parkway, although other roads leading to the area are also seeing their fair share of problems with traffic and accidents. Another weekend on the Jersey Shore is winding down, and as of 5:30 on Sunday night it looks like most people are getting to their destinations without too many problems. The New Jersey Turnpike Authority is reporting no issues on the Garden State Parkway through most of the region, reaching all the way to the Hudson River crossings.  The only major issue on the New Jersey Turnpike even near the area is on the northbound side near Exit 7A. However, as of 7:40 Friday night, there is very little traffic to report on the local roadways. With "Carmageddon" having past in California, the time has once again come for visitors of the Jersey Shore region to return to their original points of origin. A recent addition to the traffic scene in the area is a two mile delay on the Garden State Parkway heading north near exit 98. The traffic volume has picked up in that area as of 4:20 on Sunday afternoon. Also on the local roadways, there are delays reported on Route 36 north between Atlantic Ave. in Long Branch and Navesink Ave. in the Highlands. If you find yourself stuck in traffic this weekend and grumbling about how it takes longer than you would like to get from point "A" to point "B", just remember it can always be worse. It has undoubtedly been a busy day on the roads this Fourth of July, but as the last fireworks are fired off, those visitors to the area on their way home for a shortened week of work are doing so in a way that is not making too many headaches for those that live here.  The current peace and quiet of the roads is a long way from the start of the day when a fatal accident on the Parkway brought traffic to a halt for an extended period of time. With another weekend upon us, that means more people heading down to the Jersey Shore to hopefully enjoy some sun this Father's Day weekend. Unfortunately, rain showers and the occasional thunderstorm are putting a damper on the early part of the weekend. According to the New Jersey Turnpike Authority, the weather is already having an impact on the rails.  New Jersey Transit is reporting delays of anywhere between 30 and 45 minutes going into and leaving New York Penn Station on the Northeast Corridor, the North Jersey Coastline and the Midtown Direct lines. At 7 p.m. on Sunday those people who came to the Jersey Shore for the weekend are likely on their way back to their points of origin. And, according to the New Jersey Turnpike Authority, those drivers on the road are doing so in as organized a way as could be expected. From the Garden State Parkway to the to I-195 there are no reported issues on those major roadways.  In fact, the only reported problem in the surrounding area is on the Turnpike going north from Exit 7 to Exit 8, with a 12 mile backup only causing 15 minute delays going that way.  

While some parts of the state are still cleaning up the roads and restoring power from Thursday night's storms, there are already plenty of people making their way to the Jersey Shore as Friday night rush hour comes. On the local scene, traffic is heavy as usual in the Howell area of Route 9 as people move from Monmouth County down into Ocean County. Just a few towns away there is increasing traffic on the Parkway especially between Exit 98 in Wall and Exit 91 in Brick. At 3:30 on Friday afternoon the official start to the weekend is just over an hour away.
