Eatontown Cleanup volunteers suprassed all expectations Sunday when they turned out 70 strong to rid the roadsides of litter. Civic groups, church volunteers, members of both the Eatontown Democratic Club and the Republican Club and individual citizens showed up on a beautiful afternoon to pick up trash.
The Pride in Eatontown Committee, who organized the annual event, will be out throughout the summer doing “mini-cleanups” of the local roadsides missed on Sunday.
Combined with the 19 scouts and several parents who braved the rain the previous Sunday to clean 80 Acres Park and the 14 Boy Scouts and Scoutmaster Jeff Phelon of Troop 49 who scoured the Arboretum border before their meeting Tuesday night, plus committee volunteers who planned and directed the event, a total of more than 110 residents and friends took part.
Pride members Helga Schuette and Louis Kane organized a delegation of 14 volunteers from the Eatontown Industrial Park. That group included staff of the Sheraton Hotel, Bank of America and Ron Wollner of CDS.
Jason Morrell, teacher and football coach at Monmouth Regional High School brought a delegation of cheerleaders and football players who assisted Ed Dlugosz of the Environmental Commission in removing litter from the Cranberry Brook watershed.
Pastor Danny Delgado of the Jersey Life Church brought a group of 17 teenagers who pitched in, cleaning property along route 35.
Police Chief Michael Goldfarb was there, in “civilian clothes” picking up trash, as was mayor Gerry Tarantolo.
As Chair of the Pride Committee, Judy Bretzger would also like to thank Borough Administrator George Jackson, DPW Director Frank Cannella, DPW workers Doug Buchan, Tom Partenfelder, and Ronnie Woods and Police Sergeant William Lucia.
Anyone interested in helping out with the mini-cleanups or any other Pride activities may contact the committee at prideineatontown@gmail.com.

Councilman Gonzalez, Councilman Connelly & Councilman Regan also did a spectacular job cleaning up Eatontown along with Planning Board Member Ed Fitterer!

Nice to see so many Borough officials turn out on Sunday. I also saw the Mayor (Gerry Tarantolo), Councilman Anthony Talerico Jr., and Business Administrator George Jackson helping out.

Yes indeed, they were volunteers on Sunday. I also might have included several other volunteers such as Sondra Thompson and her colleagues who have been working on the Mingo Jack Memorial. She and Rodney Jackson and Sonny Thornton cleaned the Locust Grove Cemetery with Police Chief Goldfarb. Bob English and his contingent from the Woodmere Civic Association also worked hard. I would like to list every single volunteer. Many of them braved sticker bushes and ticks to help make the day a success.

I never new that cleaning up trash could be so much fun (it was for my daughter anyhow especially since she was looking forward to her reward of a slice or two of pizza)!!!! It would be nice if slobs stopped using the curbs and parking lots as ashtrays where they discard cigarette butts for someone else to pick up.

Thanks, Bob. I am so glad you enjoyed it. It's great when everyone can work together for the good of the town.

Your daughter did a fabulous job supervising when you and Anne took charge of the Municipal Parking West! We truly appreciate the great job. It is unfortunate that some people prefer to throw trash in the street when there are trash receptacles available. It would be nice if the business owners were more attentive to the problem, too. Maybe the Pride should post a "Pride Wall" to give recognition to the businesses that do a good job keeping their spaces clean. And, of course, there's the Wall of Shame...

It was, indeed, a good feeling to be cleaning up our town and our environment. I met some new people and got a good dose of exercise. Thanks, Judy to you and Don and all of your committee for a job well done. I know a lot of effort went in to organizing your clean up crew volunteers.

Thanks, Gerri. We feel good about the cleanup. Now, our next project will be to recruit a few additions to our core members to help with the mini-cleanups throughout the summer. Anyone who is interested in spending a half hour to an hour helping clean up specific spots during the summer months can contact us at prideineatontown@gmail.com.

Replying to "I Deserve," I understand you were replying to Bob English and his adorable daughter, Julia, who did a terrific job this year as they did last year. Now I know was Anne Ferraro of the Shade Tree Commission who tackled the West lot with them. A "Pride Wall" would be a good idea. Thanks.
