Long Branch baseball suffers opening day loss

Opening day finally arrived for the Long Branch baseball team on Monday after Saturday's rain out against Matawan.

Long Branch traveled to Red Bank Regional but suffered a 9-1 defeat. Aaron McCue was the starting pitcher and went 5 1/3 innings, and gave up 11 hits, 8 earned runs, 6 walks. Ashwin Mudraj pitched 2/3 of an inning in relief 0 hits, 0 runs, 1 walk.

The offense was led by McCue who was 2-3 with a double, Deigo Espinosa 2-3, Spencer Franz 1 RBI, and Tommy McGlennon 1 run scored.

Long Branch (0-1) travels to Red Bank Catholic Tuesday with the first pitch scheduled for 3:45 p.m.
