The Eatontown Roller Rink was once a place where children strapped on their skates for birthday parties, but for the last few years, it has been an empty lot.
The vacant building collapsed in 2009 and was later demolished.
All that remains is a privately-owned lot now with a for sale sign posted along Route 35.
Eatontown Mayor Gerald Tarantolo said there was a plan to build a WaWa convenience store and gas station, but the Eatontown Planning Board denied the variance needed to build it several years ago.
Tarantolo said there was a plan to build an indoor farmers' market on the site, but that he has not heard anything on that proposal for about year.
We want to know what our readers think should be built on the former site of the Eatontown Roller Rink.

Since our Long Branch boardwalk has not considered the children of the area, I believe a arcade would be wonderful. skeeball, claw machines, all that stuff that we were raised on.

How about a education office to go with a Community college or University at the Fort Monmouth property!!....For instance, the park on Grant Ave? Useless!!

I concur Dominick, there is too much "stuff" on 35. A nice green space, so long as it is kept up and not left a vacant lot. It would look wonderful next to the restored midcentury carwash. Kudos to the owner of that establishment. It is a great improvement of an otherwise depressing landscape. I want to see my hometown cleaned up!!!!!

I would also vote for a rebuilt rink, complete with mini food bar and arcade (yes, with ski ball). And why not a simple two- or four-lane mini bowl?
I used to skate there when I was a kid, and it was a great place. Plus, even the "tough" kids hung out there, but it's awfully hard to be a real tough guy on skates (unless your a Devil).

Looks like a nice place for a WaWa. That Exxon down the street is always 10-15cents more per gallon.

This will change soon. I believe after Wawa was denied application for this site, they got or are applying for approval at the location of the Sands motel also in Eatontown. I also belive that Quik Check has received approval for the location of the former Eatontown trailor park on the corner of Wykoff & 35.

I'd like to see a bowling alley or a roller rink there with plenty of parking spaces...

We need no more convenience stores, strip malls, or anything retail in Eatontown. We also need no more office space. We need to make the town attractive and welcoming.
I live here 25 yrs., I love this town but it has no aesthetic feeling....no town center to speak of...etc. A park like on Grant would be nice but not going to happen costs too much town can't afford it.....Roller rink would bring trouble as the old one started to have in the last open few years...I truly do not have an answer...and I do not want retail but based on the current state of 35 N in Eatontown :(
