Seriously? You folks just don't get it. No one around here has power. It's like Romney saying 'just ask your parents for money'. It's about HELPING Others. Good for NBC and the artists that are participating.

What the hell does Romney have to do with it, and when would he ever say such a thing? Go look at how much he gives to charity vs. how much Obama gives. Obama gives nothing -- and I'm talking as a percentage.

The other side would say it's like Obama saying, "Just go steal from someone who has more than you do." And that would be a crude exaggeration, too. Can't you rabid partisans put aside politics for just a few days while we're all suffering in this together?

@Chico. Have you ever used Google? Here is a link to Romnay saying that.

I assume most south Jersey seniors do not have living parents. Does Mitt want those seniors who lost their homes by Sandy to borrow from their grandparents instead? Mitty is so clueless.

Hey Sally, its Obama's job to show up. And boo for NBC, NJ101.5 wanted to broadcast this with them so those without TV's could at least hear, No response from what I heard. So it did not happen.

I'm sure the people of New Orleans would have liked to have seen President George W. Bush "show up" after hurricane Katrina but, oh yeah, he was too busy clearing the brush from his summer home in Crawford, Texas. Just sayin'.....

Really are you kidding me. Charity is the act of giving to others on a personal level, not getting money from others to donate on your own behalf. Bruce and Bon Jovi and Billy offer some of your own money or spend some time a a shelter handing out food. DO we really need this garbage right now, you know it will turn into a political statement, especially look at the source NBC, Bruce, Bon Jovi . Say what you want about Romney jackhole, but know one had a clue how much he donated to charity until he released his tax records. He gets what charity means. These frauds are just trying to pump this president right before the election. Total joke.. I'll bet between all of them, Romney gave more in 1 year then any of them gave in 10 years.
I'd rather see Bon Jovi handing out blankets and maybe playing the acoustic at a shelter to pick some people up right now. As ridiculous as the NYC marathon at this point. OK left wingnuts, sling hate speak and propaganda as thats your normal response when you cant find facts to back anything up....... Bring it on. I get what charity is, I been out everyday helping people, and not asking for nothing in return cus its just the right thing to do. Whats your excuse?

Mapleleaf, agree with you 1000%. The true facts say that Mr. Romney's donation to the Mormon Church and its causes, especially alcoholic Mormons was indeed significant. And, to have a Marathon run thru Staten Island is a travesty.

I am sure that Bon Jovi, Bruce Springsteen and everyone else in the marathon have donated money and this marathon will get more people to donate to help the people affected by Sandy. How is raising money for the victims a BAD thing? Some people aren't happy no matter what. I'm sure the artists donating their time and money are doing MORE good than handing out blankets.

Quite pathetic, Maple. I watched the show and heard not a single word of politicking. Call me a "left wingnut" if it makes you feel all warm and fuzzy inside but it sure looks like you're the one slinging hate and propaganda. These are the facts to back it up, regardless of one's political persuasion and it's just terrible to be you if your life is so miserable that YOU must inject infantile partisan politics into every single thing you see or hear. All you holier-than-thou types who think your viewpoint is the only valid one have missed a huge lesson in what being an American is all about.

You're right, Romney has made donations - according to the two years of tax returns he made public he donated 4 million dollars to the Mormon church. Is that charity???

The fact that anyone has to toot their own horn about being out there helping says volumes about their real generosity and caring for others! Do you really get what charity is about? Just do it! and no one has to know what you're doing!

"Bon Jovi was in London when the storm hit. He canceled his plans to be with his family and was returning to New Jersey on Thursday, according to his representative. In a statement, he urged people to donate to the victims of the storm and asked those affected to have hope, comparing the weather disaster to 9/11." So he's flying back to NJ while his family is vacationing in London and how do you know he didn't make a personal donation, or any of the artists for the matter? Disney is donating $2 million, the company that produces the Jersey Shore show is donation $1 million and the NFL is donating $1 millions. As for individual donations, they don't have to make them public. But the fact that they are donating their time speaks volumes!!!

Lets not get crazy here, they are donating their product just like Walmart and Costco did. The fact that their names like Obama have been in every tv, radio and newspaper, well they get payback too. If they help, great. If the EMS, cops, linesmen and people who donate don't get the same publicity, well they aint part of the 1%

And making it public that Bon Jovi or Springsteen are in any certain area, will only draw unwanted crowds that they area does not need! They are doing something that will help!

Bon Jovi opened a charity 'soup kitchen' in Red Bank last year for the needy. Free meals. And, he doesn't talk about it much.

When Romney was asked how kids can possibly afford college tuition, his answer 'ask your parents for money'. He has no idea what reality is for struggling folks. He wanted to stop FEMA funding...now folks demand help from FEMA. you want your roads fixed? Your power restored? Disaster relief? Guess what...all government funding. YOU didn't build that, the government did.

Bruce Springsteen, Jon Bon Jovi and Sting, again? What's the matter, that OTHER publicity hound, Bono (of U2) was too busy, or something? Same ole' crowd that just wants to make a political commercial out of a national tragedy. That's right, now dump on me for being direct-and-to-the-point! I say, give to The United Way, Salvation Army or some other organization that does this kind of a thing (charity), 365 days out of the year, not just when it gives an artist a political forum.

What a miserable, pathetic excuse for a human being you are, Fleckmann. You just made a "political commercial" because you partisan idiots see everything through the red or blue tinted glasses. I watched the show and there was not a single political comment unless you call soliciting donations to the American Red Cross a political statement. Nobody needs to dump on you for being direct, you've dumped on yourself by being an infantile, partisan, self absorbed creep.

"Salvation Army is great!"

At Christmastime, I go out of my way to give to the Salvation Army kettle, in place, at The Ocean County Mall (when I'm in "Joisey," that is). Currently, I'm in St. Petersburg, Florida, though. The Red Cross is great, too! I seriously question the motives of our entertainment communty. Bruce Springsteen, the most. I think he is a fake, phony and a fraud. To him, "charity" begins at home, with his bank account.
He's a "Limousine Liberal."

IT DOESN'T MATTER who/what/when/where/why - ALLLLLLL that matters is, this 1 hour will bring MORE HELP TO THOSE WHO ARE IN NEED, than if this hour didn't happen at all! PERIOD!!!!

Why does a good effort always turn into a debate....and/or pessimism?!?! Super sad, that "you" are residents of this GREAT STATE OF NJ!

Sticks and Stones (Rolling, or not) can break my bones, but names (and epithets) can NEVER hurt me. So, I DESPISE Bruce Springsteen (and Bono)? Big deal. Bruce never met a Cause that he didn't like (and could profit from). Bruce likes to think that he's the 21st Century embodiment of Woody Guthrie, but he's not. He's just a charlatan and a phony. My opinion, and welcome to it.

Funny how everyone is full of opinions. It was a wonderful that these artists came out to contribute the best way that they know how. They reached out to people all over our country who may have not been aware of how badly our area has been affected and the donations are coming in to help our state. The reason for the collection of most of these individuals participating is because this is their home state too. Bruce Springsteen & Bon Jovi being the most recognizable jersey boys made them the ideal artists to head the show. oh and BTW : Jon Bon Jovi also has been running his own restaurant where the hungry can come in and get free meals for a year now in Redbank, NJ and he always trys to do what he can to give back!

The Telethon wasn't broadcast for the victims to watch, it was broadcast so people in other parts of the country could see how devastated OUR area is and maybe be compelled to act. More airtime was given to footage of the wreckage and stories of the victims as well as memories of the shore from Brian Williams and Jon Stewart than was to the musical acts. Not ONE mention of any politics are elections or political party was made, so I don't know what you people listened to.

I am still holding my breath from this telethon and waiting for the donations that this B.S telethon took in. Its crap like this that each victim should get a piece of the pie when they have telethons like this. BUT I can tell you one thing the people that do put something like this together always seem to get there cut. I call all these B.S fund raisers bogus, the funds never make it to all the victims.
