Report: Coast Guard Suspends Search For 17-Year-Old Swimmer Missing in Long Branch

Authorities searched for a teen who went under the water Sunday evening.

The Coast Guard has suspended it search but local rescue workers are still searching for a 17-year-old boy who reportedly disappeared at a Long Branch beach on Sunday, according to the Star Ledger

W-ABC news reported the male teen was swimming at the section of beach near Pier Village at Ocean Avenue and Melrose Terrace when he was pulled under the water at 5:45 p.m.

Authorities suspended the search for the evening at approximately 10 p.m. on Sunday, according to the Asbury Park Press report, but resumed the search early Monday.

State Police Sgt. Brian Polite said the State Police deployed a marine vessel and that it was assisting early Monday morning.

This is a developing storyline. Long Branch Patch will have more information as it becomes available.

Please do not swim in waters that are not being actively guarded. Life guards save lives!! What a tragic way to start the summer season. My condolences to this young man's family. I pray that he is somehow found safe and sound.

This was my worst day , I was there with my family having branch an Avenwe restaurant when this happen ... Thousand of people went on beach wen the fire trucks arrive . 2 helicopter came on area searching for the body , but way late ... Life guards they ware off duty , but they arive quick with 2 jet-ski searching with no luck . In this
case I think divers will be the best rescue , but they arrive 2 hours later
I hope they found the boy safe

If Long Branch had good resuce workers they would have done a better job. Instead they get rid of the good ones based on lies.

Sounds like sour grapes to me Cassidy. You need to address your problem with the people you had a problem with...not on a public fourm.
Either way, the good or the bad would not have been there...seeing that it was after hours.
Give credit to those that were there.

Long Branch did an excellent job and so did the other rescue groups! Unfortunately if people insist on going swimming when no LIfe Guards are on duty and when there are not a lot of people on the beach and they are not very knowledgable about the ocean bad things can happen and there will be no one to rescue them.
