They both should be made to do community service at both animal shelters. Cleaning the cages of all the animals BUT not being allowed to be around any animals!!!! In addition to heavy fines and never being allowed to ever owning any type of pet again!!! NOT EVEN A GOLD FISH!!!!

So happy to see the two towns are finding more charges. This definitely warrants community service in an animal shelter. Please give them the maximum sentence on each charge.

This woman is a special education teacher at Neptune Middle School. God help those kids. She should lose her job immediately including future benefits. This is a disgrace.

Sammy's abusers should be placed in garbage bags covered in their own feces and urine and starved to death...left to die a slow death.The fines and punishment for animal abuse are not strict enough! I cannot comprehend how these people can look at themselves in the mirror and sleep peacefully at night! I pray Sammy makes a full recovery and finds a loving, caring family. i called brick court to see if we can send letters to the judge to send the maximum penalty at them. she said he couldn't read the letters but suggested we write to the newspapers. let's all write to the papers and show up at court. let's hope these 2 pieces of crap get the maximum punishment. hope they rot in hell for a long time!!!!!

this is the problem, animal cruelty laws are weak to begin with . the maximum penalty this guy can get is 6 months in jail and a $1000 fine. more than likely a judge will give them a slap on the wrist. to add insult to injury at first morgan claimed he found the bag and was happy to be called a hero. people should go to court on those dates to let the court know sammy has people who are willing to speak for him. every year of abuse and starvation shows on this poor dog's face.

the punishment does not fit the crime, i am appalled i really think that they should get at least 3 years in prison and about at least a $20,000. fine and when they get out of jail they will have lost everything, if the punishments don't get tougher it's never going to stop...good lord...how do we change things????

While i find what they did abhorrent and feel they deserve punishment by our justice system, consider this. Patty D drank at the bar, drove home, and hit and killed an 18 year old. He is halfway through his 6 month sentence.

Keith and Shauna Morgan made some type of terrible mistake by neglecting to care appropriately for the dog they've had at least since 2007. Using common sense, I would deduce that something happened in the last year or so that caused this lack of care. We are humans, can we FIRST try to find out what the problem was, instead of sending them to the guillotine? After all, this is America where people are given a chance to explain themselves. Notwithstanding the obvious problems this couple faced in their lives over the past few years, the simple fact still stands out....
They allowed a pet in their care to suffer and neglected to care for the pet or seek remediation from one of the many sources for pet help
The pet is lucky in that it was cared for by an agency that applied superior resources to revive it. The Morgans are unlucky because their downward spriral was only greased to make sure they continued on to the nadir.
I have no tolerance for pet abuse NONE They will get a penalty for their actions from the courts but more importantly, they suffer the public shaming and loss of any creditability for almost any serious venture they try
And they earned all of it!!!

Why didn't they just bring the animal to the shelter & say "we are so ashamed at the condition of this animal, we are so sorry, we have had bad personal issues that last few months to a year. We know what happened here was wrong & we are sooo sorry for him. We just want him to have a home for his last few years that is able to take care of him"??

You have a lot of nerve calling the majority of the human race "psycho animal thumpers." I seriously doubt anyone posting here is anything other than an average human being, with an average empathy for dogs. What Keith and Shauna Morgan did was considered unacceptable "human" behavior, on a number of levels. Set aside the fact that the dog was malnourished, had urine scalds, skin infections, ear infections, was unable to walk, was living encased in his own feces, but they decided to concoct an elaborate lie about it all. Then they went on national TV, trying to declare themselves heroes! Who in the HELL does THAT? That is not "good people." The average person doesn't do that to a defenseless animal and the average person does not create a web of deceit to hide their wrongdoings. What that dog lived through (for Lord only knows how long) was absolute torture. Imagine having to live in a cocoon of your poop and pee, unable to move, sores, aches, smells, pain, hungry.
